A much neglected vegetable with a unique nutty/smokey flavour. Can be used for soups, in stews, roasted, made into chips, boiled and mashed with potatoes. Easy to grow. Plant tubers 40cm (15”) apart 10cm (4” deep). Plants are vigorous reaching 1.5/1.8m in height but do not usually need support. They can form a good windbreak. Can be grown in any soils but if your soil clay this is best improved with organic compost and planted in Spring. Some protection from slugs will be needed.
An additional bonus is lovely yellow daisy flowers that last well in water.
